Sunrise joined Read To Me International’s Feed Me A Story gala on October 3, an evening for Hawaiʻi’s young readers. RTMI reported a record $171,820 raised across the fundraiser for its literacy work.
A book-themed dessert display and children’s-book pages on screen set the scene for an evening celebrating Hawaiʻi’s young readers. Honolulu Sunrise members joined Read To Me International Foundation’s Feed Me A Story gala on October 3, 2026, at the ʻAlohilani Resort Waikiki Beach, gathering around a purpose close to Rotary’s heart: helping children discover the joy of reading.
The club’s Table 18 was part of an evening supporting read-aloud programs and book ownership for Hawaiʻi’s keiki. In her October 7 follow-up, RTMI Executive Director Dannah Barnes reported that the fundraiser raised a record $171,820. That is the total for the event, reflecting the support of its wider community of donors and participants.
Dannah said the support will help put more books in the hands of little ones and provide read-aloud support for families across the state. Behind an evening together is work that continues throughout the year, connecting children and families with books and opportunities to read aloud.
Mahalo to Read To Me International and everyone who helped bring the evening together. For Sunrise, it was another opportunity to show up for the people and organizations helping our community grow.
